Others were more minor, involving single-vehicle accidents with no injuries. Woman Killed by Alleged Drunk Driver in Pickup Truck
In March of 2025, a woman was killed after a collision on US 70 in Clayton. The accident occurred when an allegedly drunk driver ran through a red light and struck the victim as she was pulling out of a Waffle House parking lot. The defendant was driving a pickup truck, and the 19-year-old victim was in a smaller sedan. The defendant now faces a felony charge for DWI causing death.
Alleged Drunk Driver Almost Hits Police Vehicle Head-On
Days earlier, a man in Davie County almost struck a police vehicle in a head-on collision while allegedly intoxicated. The incident occurred on US 158 when a pickup truck approached a stationary police vehicle, missing it by just inches. The deputy in the vehicle then began a pursuit, which caused the driver to speed up and run through a stop sign. Finally, the driver pulled into a driveway – and the deputy was able to detain him.
At this point, the deputy determined that the driver was intoxicated. It also became clear that the driver had a suspended license, and that he was under a “.00” BAC restriction. Finally, police found an open beer can in the vehicle. As a result of these offenses, the driver now faces a slew of charges.
Woman Arrested for DWI After Stealing Dog
On the same day, a woman was arrested for allegedly stealing a dog and then driving while intoxicated. Police say that the woman stole the four-year-old German Shepherd before attempting to drive while intoxicated. She then crashed her car in a single-vehicle collision, which caused police to respond to the scene. As a result of this incident, the woman faces charges of larceny, DWI, and carrying a concealed weapon.
